Today is my daughter’s 3rd birthday. In celebration, I’m gifting myself with a box of “some slack”. After 3 months plus of not blogging, I’ve decided to stop beating myself up and just get back to it.
So as I’m off to make the most of my daughter’s day, check out WSJ theater critic Terry Teachout’s thoughts on the debate-sparking, widely-publicized playwright gender bias study recently released by Emily Glassberg Sands, an economics student at Princeton University.
Where do you stand on the matter? I was most struck by the finding that male playwrights tend to be more prolific, turning out more plays. As a Mom.Playwright. who writes when time, body and brain function allow, usually between 10 p.m. and 1 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m., I find myself saying, “Really? You don’t say?!”
I will not be deterred, but I appreciate being informed.
And by the way, in case you hadn’t heard, Lynn Nottage did win the Pulitzer I mentioned in my last post.
